This DC-based cutting edge startup is currently looking to hire an experienced Director of Business Development to support its overall product development initiatives. The position reports directly to the CEO and has the potential to grow into a senior level position.
The position will report directly to the CEO with career advancement opportunities to a C-level position.
The Director of Business Development will:
  • Serve as a key member in helping drive sales and marketing strategy
  • Research potential target partners, stakeholders, and customers
  • Identify and develop new relationships with potential affiliate/referral partners while
    growing and expanding relationships with existing affiliate/referrals
  • Lead discussions, structure agreements, and execute deals
  • Help define and execute on the Business Development strategy alongside main internal
    stakeholders including Sales, Marketing, Product, and Customer Experience
  • Become an industry expert, and have a systematic approach to identifying relevant
    industry trends and partnership opportunities
  • Manage the sales engagement smoothly from beginning to end
  • Leverage market, product and technical expertise to identify client needs
  • Produce clear, concise proposals with an appropriate level of detail that identify client
    needs, current workflows, proposed solutions and commercial outcomes
  • Establish & execute a pipeline target market strategy for achieving sales targets
    through the appropriate stages of the sales cycle within your assigned client base
  • Build relationships across client organizations to ensure that all stakeholders are
    managed appropriately as part of the sales process
  • Balance engagements across the sales life-cycle to maintain desired pipeline levels for
    long, medium, and short-term sales
  • Demonstrate a depth of understanding in the following areas;
    1. The Customer’s business (who their customers are, how they make money, how they can make more money)
    2. The Customer’s workflows and internal structure
    3. Leverage this knowledge to build and maintain credibility with clients, identify gaps and recommend solutions; and deliver on revenue-generating and adoption/usage goals
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA or equivalent experience preferred
  • Intelligent, hard working, and tech savvy
  • Ability to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • Results-driven, detail-oriented, and organized
  • Openness and ability to be coached, passion for winning, persistence and determination
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally
  • Strong leadership skills with proven verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience using a CRM or contact management system
  • Aptitude for technology, including using web based software and internet tools
  • Willing to travel, sometimes internationally
